UK-based 3D online poker room PKR Poker recently launched a poker encyclopedia. Known as The Poker Wiki, the encyclopedia can be accessed by poker fans for free. A wide range of content related to the game can be viewed. Similar to Wikipedia, The Poker Wiki will take content from professionals across the world. Users also have the scope for updating and editing articles. They can also upload their own content. The welcome page of the site states that poker pros are welcome to share their knowledge with the world through the site.

The Poker Wiki – A Separate Project of PKR Poker

Dan Grant, the media manager of PKR Poker stated that The Poker Wiki is a separate project of PKR. The poker room will try to make sure that the encyclopedia maintains its impartiality and individuality. Grant added that the PKR team collaborated with a group of writers so that content is added consistently.

Biographies of Poker Pros Added

The Poker Wiki uploaded biographies of quite a few poker pros. Some of them are PokerStars members like Daniel Negeanu, Dario Minieri and Victoria Coren. In addition, biographies of Party Poker pros have also been added on the site. A few such pros are Kara Scott, Phil Hellmuth and Tom Dwan. The website also comes with links to dedicated pages of 6 PKR team members – James Sudworth, Vladimir Geshkenbein, Sofia Lövgren, Marc Bariller, Scott Shelley and Sascha Walter.

The Poker Wiki has provisions for event organizers to put up schedules of their forthcoming events on the website. They can also provide details regarding events that took place before. Quite a few poker sites already have their pages in the encyclopedia. These sites are Full Tilt Poker, 888Poker, Party Poker, PokerStars and PKR Poker. Dedicated pages for poker tournament series like Asian Pacific Poker Tour, Grosvenor UK Poker Tour and World Poker Tour have also been included in the encyclopedia.

World Series of Poker Page to be Included

A basic page for World Series of Poker is already available. It will be developed further with more people contributing to the page. At present, there is a total of 123 English pages in the encyclopedia. This number is expected to increase significantly in the coming months. In addition to The Poker Wiki, PKR has a lot of other interesting features that can be accessed by players when they join the site using the PKR bonus code 2012.

The World Poker Tour Ireland, sponsored by PKR.com was one of the recent events in which Jake Cody played. The player, a member of the Team PKR.com, made a splash at the event. When he started playing at the felt, he was accompanied by a fellow member of the PKR.com team, Vladimir Geshkenbein. Also known as Beyne, Geshkenbein is a High Roller in the APPT and an EPT Champion. This was the first time Beyne and Cody played against each other in a live event. This time, Cody had an advantage – he had position on Beyne.

Cody and Beyne Battle on the Felt for the First Time

One of the first hands in which Beyne and Cody played was a bluff that failed. Patrick Vestlin, from mid-position, opened with 400 and Beyne three-bet it with 1,100 from the cut off. From the button, Cody called with A-K. Following this, a 10-8-3 flop showed up on which Beyne checked and Cody put in 1,500. He did this with the hope that Beyne would fold. However, he called. Despite this, Cody, who generally has a strong perception of opponents’ hand range, was quite sure that Beyne’s best card was an 8 or 10.

The turn brought a 9, which would most likely improve Beyne’s hand for a straight draw. Deciding to take a cautious approach, Cody checked. The river turned up a blank. Beyne checked. Cody bet 6,000 with the intention of getting Beyne to fold if he had a single pair. Beyne followed with a call and Cody mucked. He did this because he did not want Beyne to see his hand.

Cody Plays till End of Day 1, Leaves Early on Day 2

Later, in the ten handed stage, the table had a few loose players. Cody adopted a tight game style during that stage. Beyne and he clashed later. An opening bet from Beyne got a three-bet with A-10 on the button from Cody. By the end of the round, both players remained. Despite a few close calls, Cody grinded through the day. However, his stint at the felt on Day 2 was short. Within the first few hands, Cody was sent to the rail. When he is away from offline events, Cody plays at PKR.com where poker enthusiasts can join with a PKR bonus code.

This year, the European Poker Awards will take place in Paris at the Aviation Club de France. Team PKR’s Jake Cody has been nominated in two important categories – the Player of the Year and the Best Tournament Performance. Cody has been the bracelet winner of the World Series of Poker (WSOP). The player will face stiff competition from other eminent professionals like Sam Trickett. A specialist in high-stakes games, Trickett has been nominated in the same categories as Cody, who recently joined Team PKR Pro.

Players can play against Cody at PKR if they join the poker site. For this, they will have to download the software and make a deposit. A PKR bonus code will have to be used when making the deposit. In addition to Cody and Trickett, Bertrand ‘ElkY’ Grospellier, the triple crown winner, Pius Heinz, winner of WSOP last year and Russian player Andrey Pateychuck have also been nominated in the category of the ‘Player of the Year’.

Winners to be Selected by Poker Industry Experts

The award ceremony will take place on January 25th. It will be hosted by the secretary of the European Poker Players Association (EPPA), Nic Szeremeta.
Chris ‘Moorman1’ Moorman also Nominated for Internet Player of the Year

Another well-known poker pro to have been nominated for the Internet Player of the Year is Chris Moorman. He will face stiff competition from the Irish player, Jude Ainsworth of team PokerStars and the Swedish player, Viktor Blom. In addition, Sam Holden is also in contention for the award. He has been the winner of Late Night Poker. The player made a 9th place finish at the WSOP November Nine where he collected $782,115.

WPT Ireland 2012 Kicks Off

WPT (World Poker Tour) Ireland kicked off on January 5th and some of the head-turning action has been coming from members of Team PKR. The Main Event recorded an entry of about 313 players. The event is hosted by City West Hotel at Dublin. WPT Ireland will continue till January 8th, Sunday.

Main Event will be Participated by Eminent Poker Professionals

WPT Ireland main event will end Sunday afternoon. The main event has a buy-in worth €2,500. Poker enthusiasts can catch the live streaming of the final table. The prize pool for the main event has been announced as €726,750. 46 qualifiers from PKR will compete for the lucrative prize pool. Among the qualifiers, 7 are Team PKR pros.

Big Names from the Online Poker Industry Associated with WPT Ireland

In addition to Team PKR pros, quite a few big names in the world of online poker are playing in the WPT Ireland. Some of them are James Dempsey, Sam Trickett, the Boatman brothers, November Niner James Akenhead, snooker star Ken Doherty, Roy the Boy and Praz Bansi. Gary Neville, former player of Manchester United, is also expected to take part in the main event.

The First Day had a Total of 33 Action-Packed Tables

The first day of WPT Ireland had a total of 33 action-packed tables. Among these, only two had players from Team PKR. Table 16 had 4 PKR pros including James ‘james666′ Sudworth. He competed against Yartsev and tompazak.

At another table, Jake Cody and Beyne sat next to each other. Beyne, who has taken advantage of the pkr bonus code 2012, had been out of form for a while. Inspite of that, he offered stiff competition to Cody. At table 3, Beyne and Jake Cody competed against BLACKCHIPP and PatIvey. BLACKCHIPP had been a Brazilian qualifier. PatIvey is a two-time champion of PKR Masters.

At Table 8, Sofia ‘welllbet’ Lovgren competed against Andy Black. Table 15 had KL1987, japete and Bazultra in action. Table 23 had Sascha’ locodice’ competing against nesbakk123 and Barkieboy. Table 28 saw walshieblue, panasonyste and Rocken1900 go up against each other. Sofia ”welllbet’ Lovgren, a team PKR pro, performed quite well on the first day.

PKR Team Pros to Tackle GUKPT

Team PKR Poker members have entered the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour this year. It is one of the biggest poker events in the UK. The tour incorporates several poker festivals that are conducted in key locations online and across the UK. Each of the festivals includes some warm up events and a main event that is held over the course of four days.

GUKPT 2011 Finals will be held in London. This year, Team PKR’s Scott Shelley and James Sudworth will play at the felt. They will be joined by three other PKR pros: Vladimir ‘Beyne’ Geshkenbein, Sofia ‘Welllbet’ Lovgren and Jake Cody.

Team PKR Takes on GUKPT

Scott Shelley: Also known on the site as PKR_Scott, Shelley’s road to professional poker has been an interesting one. He began his career as a customer support representative for PKR. In 2009, he participated in the WSOPE side event in London which saw him leaving the tournament as the bubble boy. In a year’s time, he returned to the same event after winning a seat by battling through a Sit and Go satellite tournament against his fellow PKR colleagues. He made it to the final table and emerged victorious, winning his first WSOP bracelet.

James Sudworth: At 25, James is already a big name on the UK poker scene and a veteran member of Team PKR. He began his career online like many of his peers and has smoothly transferred his skills to live tournaments. In 2009, he was the runner up at the GUKPT Brighton event. At WSOP 2009 he finished at 7th place.

Vladimir Geshkenbein: This 23 year old Russian has earned a reputation for being one of the fiercest online poker players in the world. He began playing live tournaments in 2009 and won the APPT Highroller event. He has since gone on to win the EPT Snowfest Austria in 2011.

Sofia Lovgren: Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, Sofia is the first female member of Team PKR. She is one of the highest earners on the site.

Jake Cody: After starting his poker career in 2010, Jake Cody’s future looks bright. His first victory was at the EPT main event in Deauville. Over the next 2 years, he won three major titles and is the youngest player in professional poker history to win a Triple Crown.

GUKPT 2010: Shelley and Sudworth

At the last GUKPT tour, the only PKR pros that attended the tournament were Scott Shelley and James Sudworth. It was Shelley’s debut on the UK poker scene. He didn’t fare well and was soon eliminated. Sudworth, also known as James666, managed to win a seat at the final table despite having a short stack. He was knocked out of the tournament at 10th place.

The GUKPT final table in 2010 featured several prestigious players such as Chaz Chattha who took the 3rd place with £63,300. Chris Brammer finished in 9th place, taking home £10,300. The title winner was Luong-Huu Bui who took home £144,000.

Experience Exciting New Promotions from PKR.com

PKR.com began preparing for the new year early with an exciting new promotional event. This tournament is a forerunner to the World Poker Tour (WPT) Dublin event that PKR.com is sponsoring in 2012.

WPT Dublin Nights Promotion

PKR.com offered its players the opportunity to participate in the upcoming World Poker Tour that will take place in January 2012 in Dublin. This will be first live tournament of the new year and this promotion gave players a chance to win a package valued at $5,000.

The tournaments were called the ‘WPT Dublin Nights Speed Tournaments’. They were conducted every night until December 14th, 2011. The site took 20% of each night’s prize pool, to pay for the amazing $5,000 package which will allow lucky players to experience WPT Dublin. The final round of the tournament is a freeroll with a one-off variable stack which will be conducted on December 18th, 2011.

Players can get Easy Entry to the Tournament

In order to win a seat at the freeroll, all that players were required to do was participate in at least one of the tournaments that were held prior to the deadline on December 14th. Each of the tournaments that a player participates in will add 100 chips to his or her starting stack at the freeroll. In addition, players can win up to 8,000 chips as a bonus if they take part in more than 10 tournaments.

What the Package Consists of

Each package entitles the lucky winner to five nights of paid accommodation at the Citywest Hotel, along with a goody bag from PKR and $250 to cover their personal expenses. The grand prize is a seat at the WPT Dublin tournament worth €2,500.

Along with all this, each of the players that qualified will be given the chance to take part in the social events that PKR.com is hosting throughout the tournament week. Some of these include a welcome drinks reception, a pool night hosted by pro player Ken Doherty, a whisky tasting event, a tour of the world famous Guinness factory and access to the social lounge at the Citywest Hotel that is reserved for PKR VIPs.

Jake Cody is the Newest Member of Team PKR Pro

For the last week everyone on the poker circuit has been curious about the newest member to join the PKR Poker Pro team. The only clue given by the online room was that the new member was one of poker’s top players. Finally, the wait is over. PKR poker room has announced Jake Cody as its newest poker star.

Jake Cody – The Youngest Triple Crown Winner

When it comes to Jake Cody, ‘one of the game’s best players’ may be an understatement. The 23 year old professional poker player from Rochdale, UK is the youngest Triple Crown winner in the history of poker. Cody made his presence felt on the poker scene for the first time in 2010 by taking down the EPT Deauville Main event. This was his first major tournament title. In the later half of 2010 he earned a WPT title by winning the WPT London Main Event.

It was the WSOP bracelet won in $25k Heads Up Championship held in Las Vegas past summer that made him the youngest Triple Crown winner in the poker history. Cody managed to accomplish this feat at just 22 years of age. Apart from being the youngest winner, Cody also holds the record of winning the Triple Crown in the shortest period of time.

The PKR Rakeback website quoted Cody expressing his excitement at being a part of the team. He said that his patient wait for the right sponsorship to come his way had paid off and that he was very impressed with the entire PKR setup and their future plans. He added that PKR was a great website to be associated with and that he could be helpful in taking the site to the next level.

Team PKP Pro

PKR.com is well known as one of the most advanced 3D online poker rooms. PKR Pro team was created in 2009. Totally 13 professional players have been a part of the team. Currently the team includes 6 members – Scott “PKR_Scott” Shelley (WSOP Europe bracelet winner), Vladimir “Beyne” Geshkenbein (EPT and APT winner), Sascha “locodice” Walter, Sofia “wellbet” Lovgren, James “James666” Sudworth and Marc “Waswini” Bariller. Cody will be the seventh member. He will be given a screen name this weekend.

Experience the World Poker Tour with PKR.com

The World Poker Tour is being hosted in Dublin in January, 2012. The event is being exclusively sponsored by PKR.com. Satellite tournaments are being held, starting with buy-ins lower than $3, to give everyone a chance to win one of the WPT packages (valued at $5,000). Much like at WSOP, PKR.com is making sure that all the qualifiers have the best experience possible at this event. Each package includes a seat at the tournament, valued at €2,500; accommodation for five nights at the Citywest Hotel; a PKR bag containing some special goodies and $250 for personal expenses.

Perks of Qualifying

Additionally, each qualifier will get to take part in all of PKR’s social events which will take place all through the week. Some of these include:

Access to the PKR VIP social lounge at the Citywest Hotel on a day to day basis.

An invitation to attend the Welcome Drinks reception hosted by PKR.

A tasting event for Jameson’s whisky.

A tour of the Guinness factory in Dublin.

A pub crawl which will take them to all the best pubs in the city.

A pool night which is hosted by professional snooker player, Ken Doherty.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the WPT, people can enter satellite tournaments, lotteries, Point Sit and Go tournaments, Lotto Sit and Go Satellite tournaments and Dublin Nights tournaments. Make sure you already have signed up for PKR Rake back before entering in order to boost your bankroll.

The final round of the satellite tournaments will pay out the remaining prize money that doesn’t make up the package of $270 tickets to the main event. To win the tickets through the lottery, you aren’t required to even be logged in. You can register at any level and win a seat that will take you through to the next final. This is your chance to win the $5,000 package.

The Points Sit and Go tournaments require you to use your PKR points to win a package. Buy-in to the tournament for 1,200 PKR points. The top two in every event will win a ticket to the WPT Satellite’s first stage. If you play the Dublin Nights tournaments, you can win a seat to the $5,000 free-roll event.

PKR’s Scott Shelley Lands 55th Place in First-Attempt at EPT London

Recently, Scott Shelley, a player at PKR Poker, landed a 55th place finish in the main event of EPT London. With a £5,000 buy-in and a field featuring 691 players, the event saw some of the best players at the felt, including Shelley. His deep run at the event came to a close when he walked away with £11,000.

Crucial Moves in Shelley’s First EPT London

This was Shelley’s first EPT and he managed to work his way through all four days of the tournament. According to Shelley, he was able to stay in the tournament in the first three days predominantly because he was fortunate to get a few good hands. However, on Day 4, he was unable to make progress. He stated that he was busted in an unusual hand. At the felt, he opened with an A-J from early position.

The flop brought a Q-6-4, on which Shelly wanted to use continuation bet (c-bet). When the big blind called pre-flop and checked Shelly’s stake on the flop, he used the c-bet. The big blind then called, and the turn showed up a bomb. His opponent checked to Shelley, who moved into the pot once more. The move was called by his opponent, after which the river brought an 8 (off-suit).

Shelley’s opponent then led out. There were two possibilities – his opponent either held a busted draw or a nut hand. Shelly called the bet. His opponent had landed a two pair on the river with his Q-8 hand. Without a pair, Shelley was bested by his opponent.

Shelley’s First WSOP Title

Shelley is a member of the team of professional poker players at PKR. His first steps in the field were taken when he joined the company as a customer support representative. In 2009, he entered the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) in London. However, he faced elimination when he was on the bubble in a No-Limit Hold’em side event.

His exit from the £1,000 buy-in event drove him to win a satellite S-n-G tournament when he played against his colleagues a year later. At the felt, he faced a heads-up match against JP Kelly who had won two WSOP bracelets by then. Shelley won the event and went on to bag his first bracelet from the WSOP.
